MP mugged in VIP Delhi zone during morning walk—Priyanka Gandhi steps in, raises political heat

Imagine getting robbed in one of Delhi’s most “secure” VIP zones—that too, if you’re a sitting Member of Parliament. That’s exactly what happened with Congress MP Sudha Ramakrishna from Tamil Nadu, who faced a terrifying daylight snatching incident in Chanakyapuri. Yes, the same Chanakyapuri where embassies and top netas reside.

What exactly happened?

On Monday morning, while out for her usual walk near Tamil Nadu Bhavan in Chanakyapuri, Sudha Ramakrishna was reportedly attacked by a man on a motorcycle. He snatched her belongings, left her injured on the neck, and even tore her clothes during the scuffle — all within a supposedly high-security area filled with CCTVs and patrolling police vans.

Now, if an MP isn’t safe in Lutyens’ Delhi, what about the common citizens?

Priyanka Gandhi gets involved

Soon after the incident, the matter took a political turn. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra personally stepped in, taking Sudha Ramakrishna to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, just ahead of the Parliament session. According to sources, the meeting was intended to express concern over rising crime and lack of police accountability, even in central Delhi.

Sudha Ramakrishna has also written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding swift action and a thorough probe.

Delhi Police in damage control mode

The Delhi Police, now under the spotlight, said they’ve launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. Eyewitnesses reportedly saw the culprit flee on a scooter. The MP, in her complaint, mentioned how she rushed to a mobile police van after the attack, seeking help.
